J'avais lu l'année passée Wendy, Darling que j'avais chroniqué ici. J'avais bien aimé cette réécriture de Peter Pan donc quand j'ai vu que l'autrice avait sorti un nouveau roman dans le même univers, je l'ai demandé. Hooked se déroule 8 ans après les événements de Wendy, Darling et s'intéresse cette fois au fameux Capitaine Crochet alors qu'il vit à Londres après avoir échappé au Pays imaginaire. Il va retrouver Wendy et sa fille, Jane, alors qu'une bête surnaturelle rôde dans Londres, semant la mort.

Cette fois il y a trois points de vue : celui de James (aka le capitaine Crochet), Wendy et Jane, et deux temporalités dans le point de vue de James.

J'ai bien aimé ce roman que je trouve égal au premier, on découvre un peu ce qui est arrivé au Pays imaginaire après les événements de ce dernier. Mais quand je dis un peu, c'est vraiment un peu et je suis restée sur ma faim. J'aurais aussi aimer mieux comprendre l'histoire du couteau qu'utilise James même si je pense que le flou était voulu puisque les personnages non plus ne savaient pas ce qu'ils faisaient.

Quant aux personnages, je suis à nouveau restée sur ma faim par rapport aux relations entre d'un côté Wendy et Jane et de l'autre James et Samuel. J'aurais aussi aimé en voir plus des autres personnages qu'on avait connus dans le premier tome, surtout Mary, mais c'était chouette de voir Michael différemment.

En somme, un chouette livre qui explore encore une autre facette du Pays imaginaire et de Peter Pan. Je pense que si l'autrice écrit un autre livre dans le même univers, je le lirai avec plaisir même si je ne vois pas trop ce qu'elle pourrait encore dire à ce sujet.

Last year I read Wendy, Darling which I reviewed here. I had liked that retelling of Peter Pan so when I saw that the author had written another novel in the same world, I requested it. The story in Hooked takes place 8 years after the events of the first volume and this time follows Captain Hook (now James) who is living in London after escaping Neverland. He is going to run into Wendy and her daughter Jane as a surnatural beast roams in the city killing in its wake.

This time, the story has 3 points of vue : James' (with two temporalities), Wendy's and Jane's.

I've liked this book, as much as the first. In it, we discover a little of what happened to Neverland, but when I say a little, it's very little and I felt kinda frustrated. I also would have liked to understand more how the knife used by James worked, even though I guess it was voluntarily hazy as the characters didn't know what they were doing either.

About the characters, I felt again we didn't get enough of the relationships between, on one hand, Wendy and Jane, and on the other hand, James and Samuel. I also would have liked to see more of the characters we met in the first volume, more importantly Mary, but I was glad to see another side of Michael.

In short, a good book that explores more of Neverland and Peter Pan. I think that if the author writes another novel in this universe, I'll gladly read it, even though I don't think there's nothing more to say about Neverland.
